Summer Wrangler
Lead, teach, and serve through horsemanship at Camp Arrowwood
Location: Camp Arrowwood
Dates: Summer 2026 (includes Three Days of Equestrian Training, Staff Training + 6 sessions of camp)
Age Requirement: 16+
Being a Summer Wrangler isn’t for the faint of heart. The days are long, hot, and full of hard work—but the reward is huge. About half of our campers have never ridden a horse before, and you get to create a space where they feel safe, confident, and excited to try something new.
Wranglers care for our horses and other barn animals, teach basic horsemanship, and help campers grow in courage and confidence. You’ll serve alongside the Equestrian Director and other wranglers to make sure every ride is safe, fun, and memorable.
This is for you if…
You’re 16 or older and can commit to all staff training and camp sessions
You have experience with (or are eager to learn about) horses and kids
You’re patient, humble, and teachable, able to encourage beginners kindly
You’re willing to work hard in the heat and handle some heavy lifting
You don’t mind a little dust, sweat, and the smell of manure (seriously)
You want to help campers grow in confidence and faith while learning new skills
What you’ll do
Lead groups of up to 12 campers in horseback riding and ground lessons
Teach basic horsemanship and safety with energy and patience
Groom, saddle, and care for horses daily
Perform animal chores for horses, cows, chickens, and ducks
Fit helmets and boots, adjust stirrups, and ensure safety at all times
Help enforce barn procedures and give clear reminders to campers
Support arena activities like obstacle courses, horse soccer, or herding cows
Work closely with the Equestrian Director to create lesson plans and maintain a positive, safe environment
What you’ll gain
Hands-on leadership experience teaching campers and caring for animals
Advanced horsemanship training from experienced staff
Spiritual growth through service, teamwork, and discipleship
Mentorship & community with other summer staff who love Jesus and adventure
A summer full of hard work, purpose, and unforgettable memories
Working Conditions
Long, hot days outdoors (expect dirt, sweat, and sun!)
Physical work including lifting 25–50 lbs
Exposure to allergens and animal smells
Rewarding work with tangible impact every day
Training
All Summer Wranglers participate in Equestrian Training before camp begins. You’ll learn barn safety, teaching techniques, risk management, and practical horsemanship skills. We’ll make sure you feel confident leading campers and caring for animals.
